COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) - A Collier County woman, who claimed a routine colonoscopy left her with major injuries, has reached a settlement in her lawsuit against her doctor and the clinic where the procedure was performed.

Elaine Bredehoft said the 2023 colonoscopy changed her life forever after discovering one of her ovaries and a fallopian tube had been removed.

"I was really shocked when I learned that my ovary and my fallopian tube had been yanked out," said Bredehoft in an interview with WINK Investigates in May.

She alleged that her doctor, Scott Wiesen, mistakenly removed her ovary and fallopian tube thinking they were a polyp, a potentially cancerous growth that can be found in parts of the body such as the colon.

"I was terrified, and my children were just terrified. I was dying, and that was really hard, you know, to work through. This was an awful experience," said Bredehoft.

Both Wiesen and the Premier Endoscopy Center denied all allegations in their response to the lawsuit.

WINK Investigates contacted the attorneys for Scott Wiesen and the Premier Endoscopy Center regarding the settlement but have not yet received a response.

Soon after WINK Investigates May report, Dr. Wiesen surrendered his medical license, and the Florida Board of Medicine confirmed he is no longer permitted to practice in the state.

The details on conditions of the settlement have not been disclosed.
