New details have emerged in the arrest of former Evangelical Christian School boys basketball coach RJ Jones, who is accused of soliciting a romantic relationship with a student.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office warrant request affidavit, Jones began a relationship with an 18-year-old female student around the time of the school's Christmas break in 2025.
A student told deputies that Jones was frequently seen with the victim outside of school hours and was reportedly seen kissing the victim.
The student told deputies they were present multiple times when Jones met the victim and her group of friends between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The student said these gatherings occurred at Buckingham Blues Bar.
The student further told deputies that Jones texted them that he had ended another relationship in order to be with the victim, LCSO said.
The student told deputies they were unsure if Jones and the victim had engaged in sexual intercourse, but did say the victim told them that the two had seen each other naked, according to the affidavit.
Deputies spoke with Jones, who initially denied all claims, before eventually admitting to spending time with the victim outside of school and kissing her, LCSO said.
Jones told deputies the relationship did not progress beyond a single kiss due to concerns regarding his position.
Deputies searched Jones' phone and found messages between him and the victim, including one where the victim sent the message "I love you," LCSO said.
The search of his phone also revealed a conversation Jones had with ChatGPT, where he sought advice on how to support his "girlfriend" regarding her parents' divorce, according to the affidavit.
Jones turned himself into the Lee County Jail on March 25, and faces a charge of sex offense — authority figure soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim or any minors.
