SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla.

Construction workers found partial human skeletal remains in a wooded lot on Friday morning in Sarasota County.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the lot is off Leonard Reid Avenue. Throughout the weekend, deputies said the Crime Scene Unit, Criminal Investigations Section, Emergency Response Team and Sarasota K-9 Search and Rescue were searching the area to attempt to locate additional remains and potential evidence.

Florida Gulf Coast University’s Human Identity & Trauma Analysis program and the medical examiner’s office were brought in on Sunday to coordinate efforts to find and identify the remains.

At this time, the approximate age, sex, manner of death and how long the remains have been at the site are undetermined, according to deputies. In addition, only one set of remains was located.

If you have any information regarding the case, the sheriff's office asks you to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 941-861-4900.
