Fort Myers man held without bond in Winkler Ave. ex-girlfriend killing

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)— Lee County prosecutors continue to build their case against a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend earlier this week.

The young woman was shot and killed in a stairwell of an apartment complex on Winkler Avenue. Investigators say the suspect, Willian Rosa Do'Amaral, turned himself in to law enforcement.

Do'Amaral was back in court for pre-trial detention. He will remain in the Lee County Jail without bond.

Do'Amaral appeared in person in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. He is charged with second-degree murder.

The judge said Do'Amaral is in the country illegally and will be held on an ICE immigration detainer.

"The defendant poses a threat of harm to the community," Lee County Judge Robert J. Branning said. "The facts of this case show a disregard for community safety. There are no conditions of the release sufficient to protect the community and prevent physical harm. The defendant will be held without bond or until the outcome of this case or until the court issues a further order."

Investigators say Do'Amaral shot and killed his ex-girlfriend as she was leaving for work. Do'Amaral will be back in court for arraignment Aug. 31 at 8:30 a.m.
