CAPTIVA, Fla. (WINK) — Drivers heading to or from Captiva Island Sunday morning should plan around a temporary road closure for the South Seas Captiva Island Triathlon.
Captiva Drive will close at Blind Pass beginning at 6:45 a.m. Sunday and reopen at 9 a.m., according to a press release from South Seas.
The closure comes as South Seas hosts its annual Captiva Island Triathlon, bringing triathletes, duathletes and relay teams to the island. The USA Triathlon-sanctioned event is part of the 2026 USA Triathlon State Championship Pilot Program.

Races begin at 7:15 a.m. with the Super Sprint Triathlon, followed by the Sprint Duathlon at 7:25 a.m. The Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Aquabike and Sprint Triathlon Relay begin at 7:40 a.m.
Athletes will compete in several events, including courses featuring swimming in the Gulf, cycling on roads closed to vehicle traffic and running along the island.
Race distances range from a 200-yard swim, 5-mile bike ride and 1.5-mile run in the Super Sprint to a quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run in the Sprint Triathlon, according to organizers.
The event is being held at South Seas, located at 5400 Plantation Road on Captiva Island.
