NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A family of four lost everything in a trailer fire on Pondella Street, escaping with only the clothes on their backs.
Anyury Fernandez said her sons were asleep as smoke filled their home.
She said they didn't have a chance to do anything except leave their home barefoot before flames engulfed their trailer. One of her teens ran into the mechanic shop they lived behind, asking for help.
Firefighters rushed to put out the flames, but what's left is a reminder of what they once had.
She said it's the worst experience of her life. She had to buy shoes for her kids and all she had were the clothes she wore to work.
The family is staying in a hotel thanks to the Red Cross. Fernandez said she's thankful her sons are okay.
WINK News reached out to the North Fort Myers Fire Department to learn what caused the fire.
